Update
Emergency services feared the worst when a LPG tanker jackknifed on King Georges Road, Beverly Hills on Sunday.
About 150 people had to be evacuated from around the accident scene near the intersection of Stoney Creek Road.
The driver of the tanker was taken to hospital in a stable condition with a possible hip injury, but the drivers of two cars involved in the crash were uninjured.
Traffic was severely disrupted when King Georges Road was closed in both directions for several hours.
Police later reported the tanker was empty, but Acting Inspector of Fire and Rescue NSW Greg Purvis said they were prepared for a “potential explosion hazard”.
"We had to make sure that the truck was safe and we set up an exclusion area, so that the public was safe," he said in a 9 News report.
"Our specialist fire and rescue hazmat unit arrived and carried out monitoring on the site to make sure there was no gas leak.
"It could have been a lot worse. If there had been any leak from the tank, it could have been a potential explosion hazard."
The truck driver was due to undergo mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
