The Hoodoo Gurus and You Am I have been sharing stages for the last 25 years from New York to Nambucca Heads culminating in them taking their iconic brands of rock and roll across the country last year.
Now, The You-Do-Gurus team announce version II of that very successful tour to take place in June and July of 2018 with a gig set down for Revesby Workers on Friday, June 15.
The Gurus and You Am I boast 19 acclaimed studio albums between them, most of which reached the upper echelons of the charts and went gold or platinum.
Both bands love playing their rock and roll and there’s not many around who are any better at it.
So, getting these old mates in the tour van for some gigs around the country seems like one hell of a good idea, with all the makings for a night to remember.
And while there is a chance they could finish the show with a medley, don’t expect an encore.
Lead guitarist of You Am I, Davey Lane, admits it’s no longer fashionable for bands to pretend the show’s multiple times before coming back for more.
“Tim [Rogers, lead singer,] usually makes a point of explaining it on stage,” Lane said.
“There is a sort of presumptuousness, Tim finds it a bit condescending to think that the audience is always going to expect an encore.
“I like just ploughing on through then putting a full stop.”
Lane is pretty stoked to be running around the country with one of his favourite Australian guitarists.
“I’m just a big fan of Brad Shepherd’s guitar playing,” he said.
“More than anything, it’ll be like an opportunity to watch him play guitar every night.
“More often when we do a headline tour, we walk off stage and everything’s getting packed down.
“It’ll be nice where we’re on a tour where there’s still a party going on after we finish.”
It’s not confirmed if Lane will get to jam on stage with his idol, but if both groups do decide to rock out on stage together the 36-year-old has a few ideas for a medley.
“Probably I Want You Back, it’s one of my favourite Hoodoo Gurus songs … and my favourite You Am I song is Guys, Girls, Guitars,” he said.
Revesby Workers, Friday, June 15 show from 8.30pm. Tickets $50 | At The Door $55.
