Residents have had a win in opposing a proposed all-day, week-long clearway in front of their homes on Taren Point Road, Caringbah.
The overall proposal to remove parked cars from Taren Point Road between Captain Cook Bridge and Kingsway will go ahead.
However, between The Boulevarde / Captain Cook Drive and Kingsway, the clearway hours in both directions will be limited to 6am-10am and 3pm-7pm on weekdays, with no weekend restrictions.
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) announced in November last year it wanted clearways to operate in both directions for most of the days and all week long.
Miranda MP Eleni Petinos said RMS had listened to community feedback, and would be progressing with the new and extended clearways, “with some minor changes”.
Cronulla MP Mark Speakman said, between Captain Cook Bridge and The Boulevarde / Captain Cook Drive, the extended clearways would operate in both directions from 6am to 7pm on weekdays.
On weekends and public holidays, clearways would operate in both directions from 9am to 6pm, he said.
Mr Speakman said, between The Boulevarde / Captain Cook Drive and Kingsway, existing weekday clearways would be extended to operate in both directions from 6am to 10am and from 3pm to 7pm, but not on weekends.
“To further improve efficiency at the intersections of Taren Point Road with The Boulevarde / Captain Cook Drive and Kingsway, RMS will be introducing additional parking restrictions to provide additional lane capacity,” he said.
“The parking restrictions will also support the weekday clearways operating in both directions from 6am to 10am and from 3pm to 7pm on this section of Taren Point Road.”
A timeline for implementation will be given once RMS finalises alternative business parking with Sutherland Shire Council.
