Re the article “Rail changes ‘have proved a success’” (Leader, May 23)
I am flabbergasted that Sydney Trains boss Howard Collins claims St George residents have "accepted" the timetable cuts imposed on them.
I was part of Restore Our Rail formed to oppose them, Sydney Trains were inundated with complaints about loss of service to peak Kogarah/Rockdale (which already had the slow all stations trains stopping there), Kingsgrove/Beverley Hills and off-peak cuts to Mortdale.
Living near the minimally used Woolooware station he might feel content but we in the heavily used stations subjected to the cuts haven’t forgotten.
I hear complaints all the time, but we’re we’re not writing to Sydney Trains because we’ve just been successively brushed off previously.
At the last election the cuts were blamed by one Liberal candidate for failing to win a seat. ROR was able to endorse some candidates from Labor, the Greens and Christian Democrats.
Talks are currently underway over whether to re-form the group for next year’s election though we are hoping the government will rectify the situation beforehand.
