Sylvania boating enthusiast, Natasha Harper, has won Australia’s Apprentice of the Year, an award established by Specialised Textiles Association.
Ms Harper, 20, is undertaking her training at Covergirl Marine Trimming at Sylvania, a business that designs, manufactures and installs boat covers in Port Hacking and St George.
The awards were held on May 28 in Perth.
They highlight the achievements of future tradespeople and encourage continued excellence in the industry.
Ms Harper also hopes to attend a workshop in the US next year, to network with the industry.
“It is a wonderful opportunity,” the former student of Sylvania High School said.
“Earlier this year I was approached by the Chamber of Commerce to make a video featuring opportunities for young people wanting to do an apprenticeship in marine trimming, as not many young people even know about it.
“When I approached my school careers advisor for information they did not even know that there was such a thing.
“This is the greatest job ever.”
