Ramsgate RSL recently donated three children’s bikes to the Bayside Women’s Shelter for children in need.
A team of 15 club staff volunteered their time to build the bikes from scratch for the Bayside Women’s Shelter which is a place of safety and healing for survivors of domestic violence to rebuild their lives.
The bikes will will available for use by children staying at the shelter during an extremely difficult stage of their life escaping domestic violence.
The Ramsgate RSL volunteers worked with the help of a bike mechanic to build three brand-new bikes to be donated.
“We are extremely proud of our continued support of the Bayside Women’s Shelter through many different fundraisers and collections in recent times,” Ramsgate RSL chief executive officer David Moorcroft said.
“Every child needs a bike growing up, so it was the least we could do to put a smile back on the face of these young children, especially during this difficult time of their life”.
One in six women and one in 16 men have experienced physical and/or sexual violence by a cohabiting partner.
These staggering figures have been the driving force for Bayside Women’s Shelter to locate a building for shelter, accommodating women, with or without children, who are homeless or leaving domestic violence in the South-East Sydney area.
