A Sutherland Subway team member is vying for the title of ‘‘Fastest Sandwich Maker’’ in the trans Tasman.
Harsha Rao will head to the Subway 2018 Australia & New Zealand (ANZ) Convention to compete in the Subway ‘Sub Jammers’ competition on Gold Coast later this month.
The ‘Sub Jammers’ competition is held across the globe, with winners from every Subway region invited to compete at the brand’s annual global convention in Washington DC in August.
There are an estimated 430,000+ Subway sandwich makers worldwide.
Subway Sutherland franchisee, Jim Dimas, said he is proud to have one of his crew competing and will be cheering them on at the Sub Jammers competition at the Gold Coast convention.
“While Sub Jammers happens every second year, it is definitely the number one event that all franchisees and sandwich artists look forward to at our biennial convention,’’ Mr Dimas said.
‘‘It is a lot of fun – with lots of music and flare – and is a fantastic way to reward our hardworking Sandwich Artists.
“With Harsha clocking times around 51 seconds for a Footlong Ham Sub, we think he is in for a chance to win the whole thing.’’
The ANZ record for a Sub Jammer is a perfect sub made in just 48.74 seconds - that record was set in 2014 by Rachel Weir from Western Australia.
As part of the competition, each Sub Jammer is required to make a Subway Foot Long® Ham with all the standard toppings where they are judged on speed, accuracy and overall sandwich appearance.
The final score is based on the time to make a sandwich with points deducted for appearance and accuracy.
The Grand Final will take place at Subway’s regional convention held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre on Saturday, June 9.
The first prize winner gets $2,000 as well as the title of Australia & New Zealand’s best ‘Sub Jammer’.
