Re the article ‘‘Health chief Marr resigns’’ (Leader, May 23) and subsequent letters to the editor.
Everyone is talking about the toll on Dr Kiran Phadke and I completely understand the immense scrutiny he endured.
We were amongst those that supported Dr Phadke and were grateful to have him as our doctor during a difficult time.
As Rhonda Bott highlighted in her letter: “’His family was also thrust into the limelight. Thank goodness they had the strength to endure but at no small cost”.
This also echoes how we feel and we are still recovering to this day.
My mum was one of the cases that was investigated and we have suffered too.
There has been a lot of support for Dr Phadke but who has been supporting the patients? Especially those patients that had their cases investigated? Certainly not NSW Health.
At the time of being informed of this investigation my mum had completed her treatment and was on the road to recovery. We had been through the worst of it and were coming out the other side with Mum rebuilding her strength and focussing on living life.
To then have to watch the toll the investigation took on mum’s health - the loss of her usual positive self was devastating.
During treatment mum was so positive and had a fighting spirit. Once the investigation started and we attended a meeting with NSW Health about her case - mum’s positivity and fighting spirit was sucked out.
The words that were said to her that day were harsh and unprofessional - no one should have to be put through that.
Support from NSW Health was simply not there.
To have to sit by and watch mum’s health deteriorate as a direct result of an investigation into her specific case, I am upset that patients were not supported during this ordeal.
