Ballerina best wishes
Just loved reading all about Scarlett Weaver (Leader, June 6) having been chosen to dance at the Sydney Opera house as the young Snow White. What a wonderful achievement for a 7-year-old. Congratulations and best wishes Scarlett. I think you will have a wonderful career in the ballet.

Moving show of respect
Re “Lifesaving legend bid a fond farewell” (Leader, June 6). This was so moving to watch. A wonderful show of great respect for this man.

A fitting farewell for such a man. Vale, Harry Brown.

Loss of supreme wordsmith
Re the article ‘‘Former Leader editor passes on’’ (Leader, June 6). Sad to see that Ken Hargrave has passed away. I worked for the Leader from 1988 to 1996, much of that time as editorial chief of staff, and closely with Ken. He was a consummate journalist, excellent editor and sub-editor and a supreme wordsmith.

Shared walkway speeds
Re the letter “Ring bell on approach” (Your View, June 6). I too walk along Lady Robinson Beach from Cook River Bridge to Brighton Le Sands in the mornings. Not only do cyclists fail to use their bells, they also speed. Note the shared walkway has 10km/h speed limit signs for cyclists displayed, most exceed this limit. Who is responsible for policing the speed limit, Bayside Council or the police?

Live exports shameful
The federal government’s recent decision to continue live export shipments during the summer, is shameful and puts short term profits above above our livestock’s extreme suffering. If the huge crowds in the rain at the anti-live export rally at Town Hall are anything to go by, this issue has galvanised people (voters) and will be pivotal in the next election.

Well done Prof Brown
Re the article “Medical research honoured” (Leader, June 13). Congrats Prof Brown! The work you do is amazing and your level of dedication is unquestionable! Thank you from one of the thousands of patients you have cared for and helped!

Store a household name
Re the story ‘‘The shop that built Bexley’’ (Leader, May 23). I remember going there as a little girl. It was a household name I think. All us oldies who lived in Bexley North would have had a lot of Blackwells goods. I wish the Blackwells all the best for the future. They were a lovely family who served Bexley North people well!

Caravan threatens safety
At Peakhurst we have a situation where a large caravan has been parked at the busy corner of our street since September 2016. In that time it has been gone for three nights maximum. The owner does not live in our street. My neighbours and I need to reverse blind from our driveways. Due to the lack of a footpath, residents in wheelchairs need to take their chance on the road around this van. As it is registered police can do nothing. Human life is precious and to be legally entitled to endanger it is not acceptable.
