A new exhibition celebrating the city and featuring artwork by students from Woniora Road School opens at Hurstville Museum and Gallery next week.
Titled Songs of the City, the exhibition explores the relationship young people have with the city through ideas of heritage, culture and belonging.
The exhibition opens June 30 and will run until July 24.
The students’ work has been guided by professional artists.
Woniora Road School have partnered with global art program Room 13 International, an organisation that facilitate programs for schools.
Songs of the City features students’ work in a range of media with collaborative input from professional visual and video artist Howard Matthew and music artist Michael Moebus.
These works have been created both individually and collectively with some works realised over a period of months.
2018 sees the show head to the Dragon’s Lair Gallery at Hurstville for the first time, having previously exhibited at Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre.
Songs of the City will provide visitors to Hurstville Museum and Gallery the opportunity to appreciate both real and imagined spaces through the eyes of the young artists.
It is at once both a celebration of their diversity and ability to create striking, original works of art.
Georges River Council and the staff of Hurstville Museum and Gallery are pleased to host this exhibition from a local school and support our outreach to the community, people, and students of the region.
Exhibition opening: Wednesday, July 4 at 12pm.

Applications are now open to exhibit in 2019 at Dragon’s Lair Gallery is a community art space within Hurstville Museum Gallery.
The Museum and Gallery welcomes exhibitions by individuals or groups, amateur or professional artists, and art styles of all varieties.
Exhibitors will be selected through a proposal process that will be assessed by an Exhibitions Committee.
Exhibitions are selected to reflect the dynamic and innovative diversity that exists in the Georges River area.
