Stage two of the multi-million dollar upgrade to the footpath of Forest Road, Hurstville is set to start.
Works will include new paving, lighting and street furniture, and undergrounding of powerlines.
Georges River Council mayor, Kevin Greene, said stage two of the works include upgrades to the public domain along Forest Road between Treacy Street and Park Road in Hurstville.
“As part of the 2017/2018 budget, $2 million was allocated from Council’s General Revenue to undertake the upgrade, which will include the removing and replacing of the existing paved and concreted footpaths,” he said.
“The works will also include the replacement of the traffic island in Rose Street at the corner of Forest Road, which will improve pedestrian safety.
“Council will also be removing the current street furniture and installing new bin enclosures, park benches, bollards, bicycle racks and hand rails.”
Councillor Greene added that these works will also occur at the same time as the undergrounding of overhead power lines and the upgrading of current street lighting.
“All of these works will lead to significant community benefits, including increased accessibility for everyone to use the footpaths along with improved visibility with the installation of new street lights,” he said.
“This upgrade will also improve the aesthetics of Forest Road, and make the area more appealing to shoppers and visitors to the local area.”
The presentation of Forest Road is a priority for the council. Last summer the council held the Hurstville Big Wash to improve the cleanliness of the CBD.
