Winter is a busy time in the garden. Frank Murray from Soil n’ Stuff has some great advise on what to do during the colder months.
“In July and August, it’s time to get that garden of yours primed for vegetable plantings in July. Now is the time to get rid of those pesky winter weeds and start adding some cow manure, plus blood and bone to your garden,” he advised.
The following plants should be in the ground in the next couple of months: beetroot, lettuce, onion, peas, radish, snow peas, strawberry plants, chilli pepper seedlings, chives, coriander, cucumber.

“Now is also the time to add chicken manure to the soil, adding about 300g of citrus food to the dripline of your trees,” said Frank.
“And here is the secret for better fruit - add a couple of hanfuls of sulphate of potash. Mulch with lucerne or sugar cane.” Soil n’ Stuff carry a full range of fertilizers, mulches and manures. Bulk or bagged organic garden soil are also available for pick up or delivery.
