A Sutherland Shire coffee roaster has been chosen by the state government to promote NSW produce at an international trade fair.
White Horse Coffee will be among 12 food and beverage exhibitors in a “Flavours of NSW” stand at Fine Food Australia, to be held in Melbourne in September.
The event is said to be the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere, attracting more than 1000 exhibitors from over 60 countries and more than 20,000 visitors.
Dominick Majdandzic and Matthew Strem founded White Horse Coffee 11 years ago after gaining expertise in the industry, including working in earlier years with Richard Calabro at Grind at Cronulla.
They have a roasterie at Kirrawee, which supplies their four retail outlets in the shire and wholesale customers.
Their businesses include Little Pony at the entrance to Miranda train station, Sister Fox at Caringbah and White Horse Coffee and Brother Fox at Sutherland.
Miranda MP Eleni Petinos said it was “a major feather in the cap for this outstanding local producer and for our food and beverage industry”.
“White Horse Coffee makes fresh roasted coffee with a goal to keep it special at each step from plant to harvest, roasting and serving,” she said in a statement.
”The founders say every roast is quality analysed using an 'agtron spectrometer' (colour reader) to ensure consistency.
“Having tasted the coffee first hand, there is no doubt that White Horse Coffee is a labour of love and the founders have worked hard to ensure their coffee is the highest quality for our community.”
Ms Petinos said, as well as helping to grow sales, the event enabled producers to network with industry leaders on the latest trends and consumer preferences.
Minster for Trade and Industry, Niall Blair said the state government’s “Flavours of NSW” stand would feature “a stunning showcase of the best food companies from across the state”.
“NSW has over 50,000 agricultural, aquaculture, fishing and food and beverage processing companies that contribute to a food and agriculture export industry worth more than $7 billion a year,” he said.
“We’ve focused on getting a diverse and innovative selection of companies on our stand that can showcase both the quality and uniqueness of our industry, so congratulations to White Horse Coffee on being among the selected few.”
