Renown Reserve at Oatley is to get two new sports amenities buildings worth a total of $2 million to meet the needs of local football and rugby league players and clubs.
Funding of $1.2 million has been allocated from Georges River Council’s Stronger Communities Fund for the project.
In order to meet the cost of construction, the council approved the an additional allocation of a further $731,427 from the Asset Management Reserve.
Oatley Football Club and Renown United Rugby League Club have both helped decide on the design and location of the new amenities buildings.
Georges River Council Mayor Kevin Greene said both the football and the rugby league amenities buildings will include home and away gender-neutral change rooms, a referees change room, a canteen and secure storage.
“The gender neutral change rooms will comprise of two shower cubicles, an ambulant toilet and bench seating,” Cr Greene said.
“Sporting clubs and communities at large have changing needs, and we believe these new amenities will go a long way to improving accessibility and addressing issues of inclusiveness.
“The Oatley Football Club and Renown United Rugby League Club will be supplying funding for undercover barbeque areas and the Renown United Rugby League Club will also be funding the construction of a clubroom for its building.
“The football amenities building will have the added inclusion of public amenities such as accessible toilets and a unisex toilet with a baby change table,” he said.
St George Football Association Chairman Angelo Bonura said the association was very grateful for the upgrade.
“On behalf of St George Football Association community, we thank Georges River Council for their commitment to improving local community facilities.
“The new amenity building at Renown Park will house Oatley FC and provide the Club with an inclusive, modern and compliant building that will set the benchmark for grassroots sport.”
He said the unprecedented investment by council will have a direct and positive impact for football in the district.
Sullivans Constructions won the tender for the works and the works is expected to take approximately 20 weeks for each building.
