An off-duty paramedic played a vital role after a horror smash in Royal National Park in which one motorcyclist was killed and two other riders critically injured.
Three motorbikes and two cars were involved in the accident on Sir Bertram Stevens Drive about 12.30pm.
“People were enjoying a Sunday and one of them hasn’t come home,” NSW Ambulance inspector Geoffrey Senior said.
Inspector Senior said the off-duty paramedic was first on the scene and triaged the injured.
“He was able to give a very accurate and precise handover to the paramedics who turned up there,” he said.
Two motorcyclists with critical injuries were taken to St George Hospital.
Inspector Senior told Seven News multiple paramedic crews attended by road and air.
But they were unable to save the man who died.
“The two other males that were around 40 years old had multiple injuries,” he said.
“They had head, chest and pelvic injuries and fairly serious fractures.”
The female driver of one of the cars was also taken to St George Hospital with minor injuries and later released.
The male driver of the second car was taken to Sutherland Hospital.
Both drivers were subjected to mandatory alcohol and drug tests.
