Sutherland have continued their march towards the finals with a comprehensive 9-2 victory over University of NSW on Saturday.
Second-placed Sutho were far too good for third-placed UNSW, with the Sydney Premier Hockey League minor premiership now looking a two-horse race between Sutherland and Moorebank-Liverpool.
The seven-goal victory keeps Sutherland two points behind the leaders Moorebank-Liverpool with seven rounds remaining.
Sutherland will enjoy this weekend off before entering the final stretch of the regular season. While their draw has been spasmodic for much of the campaign, Sutherland will enjoy an uninterrupted six-weeks of hockey in a row before the finals.
That run starts with finals-chasing Norwest Strikers at Sutherland on July 21, the middle of three consecutive home games.
After the following match against Sydney University, Sutho do not return home until their final match of the league season when they host Gordon-North Sydney on the final day of the campaign.
Elsewhere in round 14, St George-Randwick suffered a 6-4 defeat at the hands of Gordon-North Sydney.
Moorebank-Liverpool remained at the top of the table with a 7-0 thrashing of Briars. Norwest Strikers downed Glebe 4-0.
St George-Randwick have the chance to climb off the bottom of the table when they return to action to host Glebe at Kyeemagh on Saturday.
