Waratah Private Hospital at Hurstville has launched its new men’s health clinic, in July this month.
The integrated clinic means a patients can go from an initial consultation through to surgery and recovery under one roof.
By providing patients with immediate access to medical specialists, the clinic launch comes after the federal government announced the National Male Health Strategy in response to poorer health outcomes experienced by men.
Research shows 86 per cent of men aged older than 65 have a chronic disease, and one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer.
The clinic focuses on identifying men’s health problems in these fields, including those with erectile dysfunction and incontinence, by teaming up a patient with a specialist general practitioner with advanced training called a GP Plus.
Waratah’s general manager, Stephen Johnston, says it “cuts through red tape”.
“We negate the need for waiting times, repeat diagnostics and the time-consuming referral process,” he said.
The clinic is open for appointment from July 30.
