Parents have welcomed a new children’s playground, which opened on the beachfront at Ramsgate at the start of the school holidays.
The Bayside Council project, in Pine Park near the The Grand Parade and Alice Street traffic lights, replaces a much smaller facility.
It includes a cycle loop and picnic lawn, junior and older children’s play areas, balancing logs and stepping boulders.
Two nearby cafes cater for parents needing a coffee hit.
Anjali Koshy, of Sans Souci, who was at the playground with her daughter Zara for the first time, said, “I like the way it’s interactive”.
“It would be nice if there was a special area where you could babies down, but apart from that it’s pretty fantastic,” she said.
Ojay English, of Ramsgate Beach, said he had taken his daughter Zoe to the park every day since it had opened.
He agreed a dedicated play pit with fake grass for babies was the only thing missing.
“My wife is having a second child, so that’s why I am thinking of it,” he said.
“They have it in the park at Wolli Creek, and it’s really good.”
Claire Rice, of Miranda, didn’t know of the playground until she passed by with daughters Clarley and Harper.
“It’s nice – it has something for all ages,” she said.
Dianne Pangallo, of Ramsgate Beach, said her grandchildren Zac and Mason loved visiting at any time, but the playground was providing extra enjoyment.
Bayside Council is due to begin further works in Pine Park, including relocating car parking and widening the promenade.
