A technical adviser has been appointed to consider options for making Como train station fully accessible.
Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said in a statement the upgrade “may include lifts, modifications to existing ramps and the installation of accessible toilets”.
The state government announced funding in the 2017 budget to begin planning the upgrade.
Further unquantified funding was announced in the 2018 budget as part of $133 million to upgrade 11 stations.
No details have yet been provided on when the upgrade is expected to start and be completed.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said “design work is under way at Como Station to identify what upgrades will be needed to make the station fully accessible”.
“This design work will give us an understanding of how to best go about the upgrade at Como and make sure customers with a disability or customers using a pram can have access,” Ms Berejiklian said.
Miranda MP Eleni Petinos said the upgrade was “much needed”.
“For too long, climbing the steep stairs to reach the platform has been problematic for less mobile commuters including those with a disability and parents with prams,” she said.
“The local community will be kept up-to-date as work progresses and all stakeholders will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the concept design as part of the planning approval process.”
