A talented group adults who have moderate to severe intellectual disabilities will be taking part in a theatrical dance production in August.
ArtsLife Access, a program of Georges River Life Care, will work with adults living with and without an intellectual disability, to pilot a new way of working.
The performing arts organisation is working in partnership with Sylvanvale Foundation, a disability service organisation that works with 750 children and adults.
ArtsLife Access is a program of Georges River Life Care, a charity that provides support services to St George and Sutherland Shire.
Funded by FundAbility (part of Northcott), professional artists will run a series of workshops that will enable participants to experience and experiment with specially composed music, sensory stimuli (lights, sound, textures, props) and choreographed dance.
Performers will dance, act and sing as they invite people to experience The Enchanted Forest – a showcase that explores the forest space.
“This way of working firmly places those adults living with an intellectual disability at the core of the creative process,” co-artistic directors of ArtsLife Access, Amy Eastwood and Laura Fishwick said.
“The show is created around their passions and interests. By working alongside the rest of the ensemble, it leads to inclusive practice and makes a difference to everyone.”
The Enchanted Forest is on August 27.
Admission is free but registrations are essential.
