Year 12 students preparing for HSC exams are invited to release the pressure valve by spending an evening with some greyhounds.
De-stress with a Grey is the first session in a program being run in Sutherland Shire Council libraries in August and September.
Greyhound Rescue, which finds homes for greyhounds surplus to the racing industry, is assisting with the event at Sutherland Library tonight (Wednesday), between 6pm and 7.30pm.
“Greyhounds are gentle, 70 kilometre-an-hour couch potatoes,” said Greyhound Rescue volunteer Fiona Chisholm.
“As a breed, they are generally quiet, calm and have no ‘doggie smell’ due to their short-haired coat.
“We encourage everyone who needs a study break to join us for a therapeutic pat and chat.”
Mayor Carmelo Pesce said the “de-stress” program was designed “to help students cope during what can be a very challenging time”.
““We know lots of young people feel the pressure when exam time hits,” he said.
“At council, we are always looking at new ways to support young people within our community and this is just one way we can assist in making the HSC exams experience a little less stressful.”
Other events in the program include an evening in Engadine Library with HSC experts and markers.
The after-hours lock-in at Engadine Library will be an exclusive evening for HSC students.
