The Georges River community is set to benefit from an injection of an estimated $1.7 million to the local economy following the announcement that Council has reached an agreement with Sydney FC to host seven home games at Kogarah’s Jubilee Stadium from November this year.
Georges River Council Mayor Kevin Greene said that the matches will not only result in an immediate economic boost at the events, but will also help support the local economy through increased spending at local businesses.
“After resuming management of Jubilee Stadium in 2017, the council adopted the position of sharing the facility with other sporting codes, culminating in thisarrangement with Sydney FC.
“We’re thrilled to bring all the excitement of Sydney FC to the Georges River community, while the announcement is also fantastic news for the local economy.
“This boost reflects the estimated total visitor spend over the seven matches of $1 million, plus the estimated associated flow-on economic impact of an additional $700,000 to the local economy.
“It’s also projected that the increase in local spending will result in direct increase in local jobs,” he added.
Council will soon be publishing its first ever Economic Development Strategy which will outline focus areas for further opportunities for economic growth.
