Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions on Foreshore Road at Botany this month as Roads and Maritime Services installs a new warning sign to help stop overheight vehicles driving towards the Airport Tunnel.
The new sign warns overheight vehicles not to turn left from Foreshore Road onto General Holmes Drive and through the Airport Tunnel, which has a low clearance of 4.4 metres.
The sign will be linked to the Overheight Vehicle Detection System which will trigger flashing lights on the sign when an overheight vehicle approaches.
The warnings are in addition to existing signs already in place on Foreshore Road to inform drivers of the low tunnel clearance, and directing overheight vehicles to an alternative route.
Installation work will be between Monday, August 20 and Friday August 31, weather permitting.
To minimise the impact to motorists, work will be carried out between 10pm and 5am. Lane closures will be in place during the work and may affect travel times.
Traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40 km/h will also be in place for the safety of workers and motorists. Roads and Maritime thanks motorists for their patience during this time.
