Concert-goers, tune in.
Legendary Australian musician James Morrison is performing at Kirrawee High School – a school historically close to his melodic heart.
This year marks the jazz musician’s 27th year associated with the school.
Morrison lives in South Australia but is heading back to Sutherland Shire yet again on Tuesday, September 11 to team up with talented students on stage.
The one night only concert will showcase the upbeat performance led by Morrison and the James Morrison Academy (JMA) Jazz Orchestra.
Kirrawee’s jazz orchestra and vocalists will display their unified skills in creating memorable music for the audience.
Morrison is best known for playing the trumpet, but also jazzes it up on the piano, saxophone and double bass.
The best-selling recording artist has played internationally at major music festivals and alongside none other than Ray Charles and B.B. King.
He has been recognised for his service to the arts in Australia by being appointed a Member of the Order of Australia with particular mention of his contribution to music education.
Morrison also helped to launch the career of jazz vocalist and former Kirrawee student, Emma Pask.
Kirrawee High’s principal Paul Owens says students feel privileged to have the ongoing partnership.
“It provides a wonderful learning opportunity for the students involved to be mentored by a legend of jazz,” he said.
The concert is at 7.30pm.
