Ahead of National Carers Week (October 14-20), Sutherland Shire Council is inviting people to submit their stories of caring, to acknowledge the contribution carers make.
The council has partnered with Care Support Service and launched a competition for unpaid carers who are residents of Sutherland Shire.
The shire has more than 21,000 residents who provide care to a family member or friend with a disability, mental illness, dementia or who is frail aged.
Sutherland mayor Carmelo Pesce says the competition is a fun way to gain insight into what it is like to be carer.
“Carers do amazing work assisting others to live full and happy lives, which helps to strengthen our community as a whole,” he said.
“By hearing their stories, we can appreciate and acknowledge the selfless and important work they do.”
People can email their story of no more than 250 words to communities@ssc.nsw.gov.au by 5pm on October 11 or post here.
Prizes include two nights accommodation at Quest Apartment Hotel Cronulla, Endota Spa Gymea relaxation massages and a gift voucher for Summer Salt restaurant Cronulla.
