They’ve learnt the ropes in training, practiced expected and dangerous scenarios and now they’re ready for the real action in the suburbs.
These are the new faces to join St George Police Area Command.
Following a NSW Police attestation ceremony on August 17 at Goulburn, the enthusiastic graduates took to their stations at St George Police for an induction day today.
This year St George welcomes five probationary constables – four men and one woman, to its ranks.
A total of 246 graduates join NSW Police in 2018.
The young group at St George said they were all happy to join the command.
“It’s where we want to be – it’s a popular, busy station that has a good reputation,” Scarlet O’Toole, 28, said. The former solicitor is in an accelerated program to become a prosecutor.
Aspiring detective Alex Calderon, 25, says the past eight months of training has been tough but enjoyable.
“Now the first arrest will be pretty cool. It won’t be fake,” he said.
“I have an uncle in the force and I always wanted to be do detective work so this is a gateway to that.”
The youngest addition, Mason Hayward, 19, hopes to join the dog squad one day.
Daniel Barnes, 24, looks forward to working in transport.
St George commander, Superintendent Julian Griffiths, welcomes the new members of the team.
“They will be a valuable addition to the police resources already serving the community,” he said.
“Each of our probationers bring different life experiences but they have all shown their dedication by completing a demanding and rigorous training program at the NSW Police Academy.
“Today starts the next chapter in their policing career and I am confident the team of local police officers who will work alongside them will positively oversee their ongoing development.”
