A free outdoor family movie in Monro Park will be a new feature of this year’s Cronulla Spring Fair.
The Greatest Showman, starring Hugh Jackman, will be screened on Saturday, September 8.
Gates open at 5.30pm, with the screening to start at sunset, about 6pm.
The movie will be an addition to the normal program of attractions, which will take place in the mall and Monro Park between 8am and 4pm on the weekend of September 8-9.
It is the first time a free outdoor movie has been held at Cronulla.
Two years ago, plans were made to stage an outdoor cinema in Gunnamatta Park over the summer holiday period.
It was to have been a paid, licensed event.
However, Kirrawee based events agency, Sorted Projects & Events, which was behind the initiative, dropped the idea.
Managing director Hailey Mason said it had proved too difficult to get the required support, and the projected income was insufficient.
“I explored every avenue, but it ran its course as some business ideas do,” she said.
Organisers of the Cronulla Spring Fair say the The Greatest Showman “has captured the attention of children and adults alike, and we look forward to welcoming the whole family down for a night under the stars”.
The fair, in which the official event partners are Highland Property Group and Stewart Toyota, attracts more than 30,000 people ever year.
Organisers say other features of this year’s fair will include:
- Craft beer and wine with Hairyman Brewery and Shark Island.
- Kids Zone in Monro Park – Face painting, amusement rides, rock climbing and animal petting.
- International food offerings – More food available than ever before with the return of favorites such as smoke truck, Get in the Q and fairy floss.
- Live music at the pavillion and in Monro Park including special performances from Busk for a Cure artists, an independent charity raising money for Cancer Council.
- Over 130 artisan market stalls from across Sydney.
