UPDATE
A man has been taken to hospital with head injuries after being struck by a van at Carlton today.
About 11.15am emergency services attended the Princes Highway at O’Meara Street, near the St George Leagues Club, and found a man, believed to be in his 80s, suffering a cut to his head after being struck by a van.
The driver of the van stopped and rendered assistance until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics.
The elderly man was taken to St George Hospital in a critical but stable condition.
The male driver of the van was also taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
Officers from St George Police Area Command are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and are appealing for anyone with information, or any witnesses to come forward.

EARLIER
A pedestrian was knocked down on the Princes Highway at Carlton near the St Georges Leagues Club this morning.
Two of three southbound lanes were closed near O'Meara Street as emergency services attend the scene just after 11am.
Initial reports are that a man was hit by a van and has been taken to St George Hospital in a critical condition.
The southbound lanes were reopened to traffic at 12.30pm.
