Families may have a new school holiday activity next year with a pop-up ice skating rink proposed for Cronulla mall.
The idea was put forward by Cr Marie Simone at the Sutherland Shire Council meeting on Monday night.
The council agreed, in consultation with the Cronulla Chamber of Commerce, to “call for expressions of interest for an experienced operator to provide a pop-up ice skating rink in Cronulla Plaza next winter for the benefit of the local community and at no cost to council”.
Cr Simone said she was recently in Melbourne, where she saw a pop-up ice skating rink operating outside Crown Casino.
“I would like to have it at Cronulla for two weeks during the winter school holidays,” she said.
“It would create a beautiful winter wonderland.
“We could do a Christmas in July in conjunction with the shops.
“It would be great for the kids and the businesses.”
