Two of Australia’s funniest comedians, Fiona O’Loughlin and Peter Rowsthorn, along with a special guest appearance of their alter egos, ‘‘Ron and Brenda’’ are coming to the Sutherland Shire on September 8.
O’Loughlin, the official “Jungle Queen” and her unofficial king, Rowsthorn, escaped the Network Ten celebrity torture fest - I’m a Celebrity Get me Out of Here - and have headed to the relative safety of stand-up comedy to share their stories on life, the world and the making of the reality show they both starred in earlier this year.
Rowsthorn is a comedy favourite having starred in iconic shows Kath and Kim, The Comedy Company and Hey Hey It’s Saturday as well as many film and stage roles including Paper Planes and Crackers.
Most recently the Aussie funnyman has become a poster boy for his generation.
He is leading Jetstar’s nationwide search for the next big travel influencer - aged 55 years or over.
“I take it I’m good looking and they couldn’t find anyone hotter than me,’’ Rowsthorn, 55, said.
“I think my generation, because we have kids and we get hit up for cash you can’t just sneak off.”
O’Loughlin may now be a familiar face and name to many from her time in the jungle but in reality, she has been making Australians laugh for a long time.
Her quick wit, sharp tongue, brutal honesty and dalliances with reality TV are nothing new.
The mother of five has appeared on Dancing with the Stars and The Celebrity Apprentice, where she was the first to be fired.
Always candid, O’Loughlin detailed her career and her life’s highs and lows including her battle with alcoholism when she was featured on ABC’s Australian Story.
She also used her appearance on I’m a Celeb to bring attention to the issue, particularly her life-threatening battle with it.
“I will keep talking about it because I think we have to strip away the shame associated with alcoholism so that people can avoid getting to the point that I had to, to wake up,” she said.
And when she wasn’t discussing serious life issues in the jungle O’Loughlin admitted to sleeping – “a lot”.
“You could say, very politely, that I slept my way to the top,” O’Loughlin said. “Not many people can admit with pride that they slept their way to the top but I can with all those naps I took in the jungle.
“Whenever things got tough, I fell asleep.”
