Films made entirely on smartphones will be celebrated at the SmartFone Flick Fest at Event Cinema on September 23.
Its shortlist of finalists from hundreds of short film entries from across Australia include Caringbah’s Narelle Nash, who made the film #Selfie, which tells the story of a young woman’s reality and social media obsession. She shot the film in one day and in one location on an iPhone 7.
Bexley’s Geordie Andrews created The World Going By, which is about the world slowing down and speeding up.
Festival co-director and founder, Angela Blake of Blakehurst, says she is blown away by the emerging talent from young filmmakers.
“This is the future of Australian cinema right here and we love being able to nurture and encourage Aussie filmmakers, and get the next generation of Spielbergs and Campions pulling out their phones and making films,” she said.
Celebrity judges this year include Australian playwright, Louis Nowra.
The festival will be screened at Westfield, Bondi Junction.
