An exhibition showcasing 42 of Alexander McKenzie's most significant works was officially unveiled at Hazelhurst last Friday night.
About 400 people attended the opening of The Adventurous Gardener exhibition – one of the biggest opening nights Hazelhurst has ever had.
McKenzie, from Cronulla, is known for his evocative, luminous landscape paintings.
Many of the paintings in the Hazelhurst exhibition have not been seen together before as they are largely from private collections around the country.
The exhibition was opened by the Chair of Hazelhurst, Byron Hurst, followed by a few words from McKenzie who was grateful for all the support he has received enabling him to stage his first restrospective - “while still alive”!
The success of the opening night continued through the weekend with McKenzie’s artist talk in the gallery on Sunday attracting close to 100 people.
More than 2000 people visited the show over the opening weekend.
Alexander McKenzie: The Adventurous Gardener can be viewed at Hazelhurst Arts Centre until October 21.
