Oatley Lions Club has raised $16,000 to date in the Need for Feed Project to assist farmers and their families affected by the drought.
The Lions’ fundraising efforts follows a request from Lions Clubs in western NSW for support.
Oatley Lions Club has a target of $30,000 for drought relief and will be continuing their fundraising efforts for some months.
Oatley Lions Club president John Morgan has transferred $16,000 as first instalment to the Lions Club Drought Disaster Fund.
This money, from donations raised in Oatley and surrounds, is being used directly to purchase up to six B-doubles of hay for farmers which is being distributed by Wellington Lions Club in western NSW.
The Lions Clubs of St George and Sutherland Shire have been working together to raise funds to assist farmers to survive the drought.
The local Lions Clubs together with volunteers from the Rural Fire Service, State Emergency Service, Riverwood Air League and Sing Australia have joined forces to raise money through bucket collections, barbecues and other fund-raising activities to purchase much needed fodder for animals and living essentials for farmers.
Local Lions Clubs have joined the Need for Feed Disaster Relief, a project of all Lions Clubs across NSW, Victoria and Queensland.
All funds raised will cover the costs of feed and transport to drought area.
Oatley Lions have been colledcting at Oatley and Mortdale Railway stations.
