Beverly Hills will host the world movie premiere next week of the joint Greek-Australian documentary, Mykonos: the other side.
The film’s executive producer, Hurstville resident Billy Cotsis said the film aims to capture and document the beauty, lifestyle, history and culture of Mykonos.
Mr Cotsis is a presenter on the Greek television show, MerakiTV on the Aurora channel on Foxtel.
He made the film in collaboration with Basil Genimahaliotis. They also made the documentary Lesvos: fall in Love which screened in two sold-out sessions at the 2016 Greek Film Festival, Sydney.
“The new film follows a range of locals and visitors as well as a group of Australian citizens who live and work in Mykonos, taking the challenge to work in country with a broken economy,” Mr Cotsis said.
“There’s a lots of locals from St George and Sutherland from the Greek community, along with other locals who have visited Mykonos and feature in the film,” he said.
“While the film introduces a number of Greek Aussies, the film shows the other side of the party capital of Europe.
“Mykonos is known as a party island but that’s only on the surface. The Greek economy is a basket case by Mykonos is a different story. It’s a really strong economy.
“There’s a lot of culture and international travellers. Australians are in the top three groups for international travellers to the island so there are strong local ties.
“There are a lot of St George locals in the film who are part of the fabric of southern Sydney.
“The audience will meet a number of Aussies who have made their way to Mykonos, some for an escape and others to earn a living, where they can be themselves.”
Mykonos: the other side will premiere at GU Film House, Beverly Hills on Thursday, September 13 at 7pm.
