The teaching of French at Taren Point Public School has been officially recognised by the French Consulate.
Its bilingual program now qualifies the school to become a member of Australian Association of French English Bilingual Schools (AAFEBS).
The school is one of three in NSW and 15 in Australia to receive the recognition.
Children at the school of 90 pupils learn French for one hour a week, and the school’s youngest grade joined the revolution this year.
The parent-funded program enables participating pupils to be taught the Australian curriculum in French.
It is supported by non-profit association, the Francophone Association of Southern Sydney.
Principal Trent Bridgland says the membership will strengthen the school’s immersion program through resource expansion, professional learning and the support of a bilingual school network.
“It will also ensure our school and program is recognised by both our local community and at a national level,” he said.
“We are pleased to be able to offer it in both Kindergarten and year 1 in 2019 and look forward to expanding the program to all year levels in the coming years.”
