Sutherland have secured back to back NPL 1 under-20s titles with an epic penalty shootout win over Sydney FC.

The young Sharks successfully defended their 2017 premiership after playing out a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes in the grand final at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday.

Lachlan Everett drew Sutherland level after they had conceded an early goal before Harrison Quirk gave the Sharks the lead just before the hour mark.

The young Sky Blues were back level on 70 minutes when Guiseppe Tilio scored his second.

The teams were unable to be separated in extra time, with goalkeeper Nikolas Loe giving Sutherland an early advantage in the shoot out.

Everett and Quirk held their nerve from the spot before Richard Stewart dispatched his penalty into the left corner to seal victory for Sutherland and their third trophy in two years.

Rockdale City went down 1-0 to Sydney FC in the under-18s final. Sydney Olympic downed APIA Leichhardt 3-1 in the NPL 1 decider.
