Cameron Devlin has been handed his first professional contract with Sydney FC, signing a one-year deal with the Sky Blues.
The 20-year-old from Jannali joined Sydney FC’s under-20s and first grade NPL sides last year.
The midfielder will wear the number 24 for Sydney and could be in line to make his A-League debut in the Sky Blues’ season opener against Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium on October 19.
New Sydney FC coach Steve Corica said the club had a ‘fantastic’ youth system in place and an academy regarded as the best in Australia. While Devlin had shown the qualities necessary to be part of Sydney’s A-League squad after gaining much experience at youth level.
Devlin joins fellow shire products Aaron Calver and Charles Lokoli-Ngoy in Corica’s senior squad.
[Devlin] has a lot of experience at youth level and has shown the qualities necessary to be a part of our A-League squad.

Ikonomidis heads west
Chris Ikonomidis has become the fourth Socceroo to join Perth Glory after the 23-year-old signed a three-year contract to head west.
The former Lazio attacker, also another Sutherland Sharks product, returned to Australia to join Western Sydney last season.
He has six Socceroos caps and said he was attracted to Perth by their ‘project’ under new coach Tony Popovic.
“I definitely think that Glory will be competing for the title this year and that was one of the most tempting things about signing,” Ikonomidis said.
“I spoke to Matt Spiranovic over the phone a few weeks ago and he really convinced me what a great place this is.”
Gersbach returns to Roos
Alex Gersbach has returned to the Australia set up, joining a nine-day camp in Turkey.
New Socceroos coach Graham Arnold, from Gwawley Bay, coached the Sutherland Sharks product at Sydney FC and included the 21-year-old left back in his 30-man squad.
Gersbach was left out of Australia’s 2018 World Cup squad for Russia but could be involved in Australia’s friendlies against South Korea and Lebanon in Brisbane and Sydney respectively in November.
