Australia’s most sought after drag queens will take to the stage in the glittering drag spectacular, Prada’s Priscillas: An All-Male Revue, which has been touring across eastern Australia since the start of the month.
A 90-minute drag extravaganza, Prada’s Priscillas takes audiences on a musical journey from where it all began with the famous Les Girls of Kings Cross in the 60s, across the Australian desert with Priscilla Queen of the Desert in the 90s, and into 2018 with a celebration of modern music icons.
Prada and her stunning “girls” will pay tribute to Les Girls with a fabulous Vegas-style feathered showgirl number, perform an array of songs from Priscilla the movie including crowd favourites I Love the Nightlife, Shake Your Groove Thing and I Will Survive, and delight with hits from music icons including ABBA, Cher and Lady Gaga.
With a cast of seven, Prada’s Priscillas is headlined by one of Australia’s most in-demand live-singing drag queens, Prada Clutch.
Prada is known for her commanding stage presence and draws her inspiration from the likes of Dusty Springfield, Patti LaBelle and Cher.
But Prada admits it has been a long road to drag queen stardom.
‘‘I studied musical theatre at the Australian Institute of Music, that’s where I’m from,’’ Prada said.
‘‘When I came out I was taken to a gay club and that very night I saw a drag queen and what an experience!
‘‘Theatre people told me you’ll never work if people find out you do drag.
“So I kept itsecret for a long time.’’
Prada said drag performers like herself have so much to thank Priscilla Queen of the Desert for.
‘‘Gay audiences have always loved drag but mainstream audiences saw it as a freak show,’’ Prada said.
‘‘Even the mainstream audience in Priscilla came to see the freaks but the movie turned it on its head.
‘‘Priscilla definitely broke down barriers.’’
Prada’s Priscillas is creatively directed by one of the original Les Girls, Monique Kelly, with choreography by Stephen Clarke who has worked with the Minogue sisters, Cyndi Lauper and Diana Ross.
Flanked by gorgeous men, Australia’s six-foot something songstress Prada Clutch and dancers take you on a journey from where it all began complete with dazzling feathers, wigs, head-pieces and stunning costumes.
Prada’s Priscillas: An All-Male Revue will be performed at the Sutherland Entertainment Centre on Friday, October 5 from 8pm.
