The responsibilities of being a mother can be anxious enough.
But when trying to juggle work and family commitments and the challenges of social media, particularly protecting kids from online bullying, the anxiety can be overwhelming.
Now the new local chapter of the Mums in Business Association (MIBA) are gearing up to beat anxiety.
Members of recently formed MIBA Networking Sydney St George and Sutherland Shire are taking part in the Beat the Anxiety Challenge.
The eight-week challenge will see the Mums In Business members working out at the UFC Gym at Rockdale.
UFC GYM is one of few gyms in Sydney that caters for 5-years-old to youth and adults.
MIBA mums will be aiming to get fit, gain confidence and support charity help raise funds for an important charity at the same time.
For centimetre they close the gym will donate $1 to Beyond Blue to support mental health programs.
The challenge is being organised by MIBA coordinator, Zdenka Sciacca, who is a mother-of-one and runs two businesses.
“There is a growing awareness of anxiety in the workplace, keeping up with rapid changes in the online world and dealing with social media,” Zdenka said.
“There are a lot of women in business who are battling with anxiety and pressure. It is very new but it is there.
“This is particularly true if you are a mother and also involved in business.
“In the modern workplace the fast-moving pace of being online is creating anxiety.
“The best way to cope with this is by getting fit and looking after yourself.
“When you feel better you can handle so much more.”
Zdenka said MIBA wants as many women as possible to join in the Beat the Anxiety eight-week challenge to lose weight and to feel better about themselves so they can “go out and conquer the world”.
“This is a whole new area as parents are also trying to understand the challenges of their children in online space, cyber bullying and anxiety associated with it,” she said.
“We want to offer mothers support to look after their own physical and mental health and that of their families.”
The Beat the Anxiety challenge starts on October 2.
