St George Illawarra kept their women’s NRL Premiership season alive with a comprehensive 22-10 win over the New Zealand Warriors.
The match was played as part of a double-header with the Dragons’ elimination semi-final against South Sydney in front of 16,274 fans at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night.
The Dragons, outclassed by a rampant Brisbane side in week one, were buoyed by the inclusion of Australia representative Talesha Quinn.
But it was Jessica Sergis who was the star. Celebrating her 21st birthday, the former Cronulla-Caringbah player scored a try and caused the Warriors numerous headaches.
The Dragons had also been without star fullback Sam Bremner who was a late withdrawal with a foot injury.
It was a must-win game for St George Illawarra after the Broncos progressed to the grand final thanks to their win over the Sydney Roosters on Friday night.
All three other teams are in contention for the other place in the decider, with the Dragons to face the Roosters at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night.
