Blakehurst resident David Solomon has been cast in the lead role of Moriah College’s production of Fiddler On The Roof.
More than 150 people will take to the stage in the show – which is based on the hugely successful Broadway production of the same name.
Solomon will play the role of Tevye – a milkman with a wife and five daughters, who attempts to keep traditional religious and cultural beliefs alive in Russia in the early 1900s.
Fiddler On The Roof is a familiar story for Solomon. This year’s show will mark his second portrayal of Tevye, a role he previously played in Moriah College’s 1994 stage show.
A performer since age eleven, Solomon trained at both the Performing Arts Development Corporation of Australia and the National Institute of Dramatic Arts.
He has starred in countless productions, including several variations of Fiddler On The Roof. He’s not only played Tevye, but the roles of Motel and Lazar Wolf as well.
The 2018 show will be part of the school’s 75th anniversary celebrations.
Director of Music and Co-Curricular Roberta Goot, who directed the 1994 production, has returned to lead this year’s show.
The cast features people of all ages, ranging from nine-year-old students to grandparents, and every age in between. A number of cast members from the 1994 production have returned alongside Solomon in on-stage or behind-the-scenes roles.
Gavin Fingleson, an Australian Olympic silver medallist and former international baseball representative, is one notable cast member.
Rehearsals have been in full swing ahead of the first performance next month.
Viewers will be in for a treat with renditions of the songs Tradition, If I Were a Rich Man and Sunrise, Sunset.
Fiddler On The Roof performances will be held at Moriah College, Queens Park.
The opening show will be held on Sunday, October 21, and subsequent performances will run until Thursday, November 1.
