Grandparents, mark October in the calendar – it’s your time.
Georges River Council is hosting a grandparents festival to celebrate the contribution grandparents make to the community.
This festival, launching on October 22, will include activities for the whole family, including art classes, exercise and cultural events.
There will be the launch of a sensory garden at Hurstville Community Gardens with a fun chair yoga session and a nature art class at 10am on October 28.
The Diwali Festival of Lights with traditional costumes, dance classes and snacks is scheduled for 11am on October 31 at Kingsgrove Community Aid Centre.
An art session where there will be the chance to create a piece inspired by grandchildren at the Hurstville Museum and Gallery is at 10am on November 12.
The council will also be working with childcare and aged-care centres to nurture connection between generations.
Georges River Council is encouraging people to email a photograph of a grandparent and in one sentence or two, describe how they make a valuable contribution to their family or community.
Grandparents whose photos are emailed will attend the launch and will be presented with a certificate of acknowledgement.
Send emails with attached photos to media@georgesriver.nsw.gov.au with the name of the grandparent, a phone number and contact email by 5pm on October 1.
