UPDATE
Bones found in the Royal National Park at the weekend have been confirmed as human.
The bones were discovered by someone in the park shortly before 4.45pm on Saturday, when police from the Sutherland Police Area Command were called to the area on Sir Bertram Stevens Drive.
Police established a crime scene and began a search of the area on Sunday. The discovery has since been referred to the homicide squad.
It is understood investigators believe the death is more likely to have been suspicious than not.
The site where the bones were discovered is within walking distance of the site from which Matthew Leveson's skeleton was dug up in May last year; the culmination of a decade-long search.
Mr Leveson's remains were discovered in the Royal after his ex-boyfriend Michael Atkins - the man once charged with killing him - was granted immunity from prosecution from perjury charges on condition he showed police the location of Mr Leveson's remains.
It was the third time in six months the area had been searched.
