Ready to keep to kids occupied these school holidays?
There will be no excuses about being bored with plenty of activities scheduled in St George.
Georges River Council’s school holidays program has an exciting array of things to do.
The program offers a mix of affordable and fun interactive activities that will keep kids’ minds active and let their creativity run wild.
There will be an ecology workshop at Hurstville Museum and Gallery on October 2. Kids will learn about resident creepy crawlies and get up close with live insects, as the Georges Riverkeepers paint a picture of weird and wonderful backyard bugs. Kids can also get crafty, having the chance make a dragonfly to take home. Session 1 is from 10.30am-midday and session 2 is from 1.30pm-3pm.
At Kogarah Library and Service Centre listen to Epic Fail Tales with Matt Cosgrove on October 3. Bookworms and budding writers will love this free workshop with the author and illustrator. His latest series, Epic Fail Tales are wacky, action-packed re-tellings of well-known stories with loads of twists and bellyfuls of laughs. He will talk about his inspiration for ideas and teach kids how to create zany heroes and monsters. Catch him from midday-1pm.
At Hurstville Civic Theatre see a free movie screening of Peter Rabbit on October 3 from 10am.
Tiny space explorers will aim high on October 4, when there is an opportunity to learn about the inventions that have taken astronauts to the moon and beyond. This is on from 10.30am-midday and 1.30pm-3pm. Cost is $5.50 and is ideal for children between the ages of 5-12.
On October 10 is the My Garden Program, where little green fingers will unite to learn about the life of plants in this interactive terrarium-making class. Kids will leave with plenty plant knowledge and a garden artwork. The session is from 10.30am-midday.
Art Masterpiece is scheduled for October 11, when young art lovers can get inspired by works of great artists, including Piet Mondrian, to create a masterpiece at this hands-on art class. The session goes from 1.30pm-3pm.
Hurstville Library will host a free virtual archaeology tour on October 12. Step into a world of archaeological wonders in Greece. IntoLearning has partnered with Dr Craig Barker to take kids on a guided tour of the fascinating wonders of the ancient world. Using virtual reality, kids will travel back in time as they wander through major archaeological sites. The action starts at 10am and runs until 11am.
