Councillor Sam Elmir has been elected deputy mayor of Georges River.
Cr Elmir, who was elected to Kogarah City Council in 2008 and joined the new council last year, defeated Cr Nick Katris in a ballot at this week’s council meeting.
Former deputy mayor Kathryn Landsberry did not stand.
Mayor Kevin Greene was not up for re-election as his term is two years.
The new council decided last year to make the deputy mayor’s tenure one year.
Cr Greene thanked Cr Landsberry for her service as deputy mayor.
Standing committee representatives and councillor delegates for external committees were also elected at this week’s meeting.
Councillors will serve on the committees until September, 2019.
