Re “Liberals given a free rein: Mayoral election deal slammed by Labor” (Leader, October 3).
Sorry but Labor has not supported the community against the deliberate destruction of important community facilities, you have been complicit in supporting the actions of this present Mayor and his cohorts!
I have personally lobbied Labor councillors to listen to the community and I representing many thousands of residents have been ignored.
It’s a bit rich for you to complain about how you have been treated now, did you think they were actually going to let you be the mayor?
Annette Hogan
Why do we need major political parties in council anyway? People with independent objectives are what makes good governance. Are we all sheep that need to follow a political party Federal, State and local?
Brad Peterson
There should be no political affiliations. Just makes local council as murky as state and federal shenanigans.
Tracey Bonfante
What an insult that the people don’t get to vote for their mayor.
Mark Foster
It happens in many councils, no surprise here. Councillors whom were aligned with a particular major party suddenly ran as ’independents’ last council elections. Fortunately I don’t buy they are ’independents’.
Grace Malesci
There’s a simple solution to this: Have a directly elected mayor. And again, this shouldn’t really “surprise” anyone. Simpson would still be an official Liberal councillor if he hadn’t been dumped from the ticket at the last election.
Jackson Haynes
Time we got rid of the major political parties out of councils. We are the most over governed country in the world.
Jeanne Hill
The whole left side of the Kingsway in Caringbah from Subway down to Taren Point Road is going to be unit blocks. We all better get used to it.

If you can do a better job, what’s stopping you ... those developments are all over Sydney if you haven’t noticed.
