A door knock that targeted Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s neighbours in Lilli Pilli found strong opposition to the Adani coal mining project in Queensland, organisers say.
Sutherland Climate Action Network took part in the national #StopAdani doorknock, which was held at more than 60 locations on the October 6-7 weekend.
Sutherland Shire Environment Centre chairwoman Tassia Kolesnikow said they spoke with “hundreds of residents”, many of whom were friends with the Prime Minister.
Ms Kolesnikow said 75 per cent of residents spoken to were in favour of stopping the Adani project, and there was overall strong support for climate change action.
“Many residents expressed their deep concern about the use of scarce water resources by a coal mine, when there is so much scope for renewable energy in Australia,” she said.
“We will be following up with the Prime Minister to let him know the results of our doorknock and will be ramping up our community engagement in the lead up to the federal election.
