A haul of medals from the National Clubs Competition has lifted Shire Gymnastics to become the second highest champion club in Australia.
The club, based in Kirrawee, won 24 medals at the competition, which featured more than 14,000 gymnasts competing over 15 days.
Held on the Gold Coast in late September, Shire Gymnastics fielded competitors in the men’s artistic, women’s artistic and rhythmic gymnastics divisions.
Level six senior Maya Hancock and level eight junior Ella Neeves were both named national all around champions. Hancock finished with gold in the freehand and ribbon events, while Neeves won the ball and ribbon disciplines, and came third in freehand.
Level five junior Vivianne Matushevsky (first in rope) and level eight senior Skye Carroll (first in freehand and ribbon, and second in ball) were runners-up in their all around divisions.
Juniors Letitia Dawson, Alex Melicher, Adeline Blonqvist and Hayley Sanderson, senior Lillian Ross and open competitors Hannah Banks and Madison Lustri also won medals in various disciplines.
The club was also successful in the men’s division D in the artistic competition. Sam Cook won gold in floor and silver in all around, Chase Cross finished third in rings and parallel bars and Lucas Robertson came second on high bars. In the masters all around, Mitchell Skippen finished third.
In the women’s artistic division, the club’s level eight team finished third.
Shire Gymnastics was one of three NSW-based clubs to be listed in the top ten overall champion clubs in Australia, ahead of Hurstville’s Avanti Gymnastics (sixth) and Ascham School (ninth).
