Georges River Council has completed a $10,000 renovation of the PJ Ferry Reserve Hall in Allawah, increasing the hall’s accessibility and improving amenities.
The renovations were made possible by the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Program, which contributed $5,000.
Georges River Council matched the investment dollar-for-dollar resulting in an additional $5,000 for the works.
Georges River Council Mayor Kevin Greene said that the upgrades are part of Council’s plans to improve access and inclusion in the local area.
The upgrades of the PJ Ferry Reserve Hall include revamped ramp access and accessible bathroom facilities.
“The works will take us closer to the Access and Inclusion goals outlined in Council’s four-year Disability Inclusion Action Plan,” Cr Greene sai.d
“This includes enabling people with a disability to have greater access to Council facilities, events and activities to create a truly livable community.
Federal Member for Banks, David Coleman MP, has also welcomed the completion of these upgrades, noting the benefit many in the local community will gain from the hall’s improved accessibility.
“The PJ Ferry Hall is a very important community asset,” Mr Coleman said.
“I am pleased that we have been able to secure Federal funding to support this project which will benefit many local groups.
“Upgrading the hall’s amenities will not only allow current community groups to maximise their use of the space, but also provide a place for new groups to consider utilising,” Mr Coleman said.
“Having safe, accessible and modern spaces, like halls, for our community to gather in is very important. They allow for better community engagement, and provide a place for residents to connect with other residents.”
The refurbishment also featured improved kitchen amenities including the supply and installation of a ZIP Autoboil tap with digital temperature display. A 50 litre under bench hot water heater and general waste and recycling bins were also supplied.
The Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Program provides funding for newly amalgamated Councils to deliver projects, improve local infrastructure, services and support community groups. Council has been allocated $1 million for the improvement of infrastructure and services within the local government area.
