Upgrades to the Comets Baseball Club’s home ground in Jannali have been completed in time for the 2018/19 summer season to begin.
The Comets spent $40,000 on upgrades to the Diamond 2 field, which included a baseball fence erected around home plate, the dugouts on the first and third baselines, and a covered area for scorers.
The money put towards the project came from fundraising and a NSW Government grant.
The field will be used by children as young as four-years-old who are participating in T-Ball and Zooka, as well as junior and senior baseball teams.
Comets’ junior club secretary Frank Bishop said the upgrades will allow junior players to play in the same first-rate environment that is offered to the seniors.
“It's great to be able to provide improved facilities for baseball and the general community, you can already see the impact it has had,” he said.
The upgraded field was officially opened in late September. The Comets and the Illawong Marlins played the first game on the improved pitch, finishing in a 20-20 draw.
